OFFICE OF VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND TRAUMA RECOVERY

Trauma Care - The Rutgers Trauma program at New Jersey Medical School and is located in Newark, NJ. The New Jersey Medical School physicians staff the Level I Trauma Center at University Hospital. They provide around the clock coverage for the trauma center and have a commitment to excellence in quality patient care, community outreach, and innovative national and international trauma education. In addition to staffing the trauma center, the physicians are involved in the care and treatment delivered through the Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) at University Hospital. The HVIP matches victims of violence and caseworkers to help mitigate risk and navigate community resources after they are discharged from the hospital.    
Behavioral Health Care - The Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) is a comprehensive and integrated approach to care with emphasis on care coordination and linkage to medical and community resources. This clinic is located in Newark and serves adults, children and adolescents, provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorder, individual therapy, group and family therapy, case management services, and health screenings. Our multi-disciplinary staff includes licensed psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, psychologists, social workers, licensed counselors, and case managers trained to work from a person-centered perspective, utilizing evidenced-based treatments.
